For those who are not familiar with Leesle, let me introduce the brand!

What is Leesle?

Leesle is a fashion brand that presents a new interpretation of Hanbok (Korean traditional clothing) reflecting the 21st-century lifestyle. By adapting the materials and designs to suit modern lifestyles, Leesle creates everyday Hanbok that can be worn like jeans.

Leesle captures the essence of Korean aesthetics and style that have been passed down for 5,000 years, harmonizing it with modern sensibilities. It's a global K-fashion brand that's both familiar and contemporary.Go to Leesle's website

Who is the Star of the Talk Concert?

The person who will be sharing insights into Leesle at this DuTongShow talk concert is none other than Leesle's designer and leader, CEO Hwang Iseul!

During her freshman year of university, CEO Hwang Iseul received overwhelming praise after wearing Hanbok, and this experience led her on a 12-year journey dedicated to the world of Hanbok.

Despite concerns and warnings that it was a declining industry, she persevered, establishing a fashion business focused on Hanbok. She is a true Hanbok expert.

What are Leesle's Hanbok like?

Leesle's Hanbok are designed to be worn as everyday clothing, just like jeans. They are made from lightweight materials like cotton or polyester, often featuring stylish prints, and are easy to wash. While the basic structure of the jeogori (jacket) and sochima (underskirt) remains similar to traditional Hanbok, the designs are modernized to suit the preferences of contemporary women. They are elegant and stylish, making them incredibly appealing and desirable.

In Jeollabuk-do, a province steeped in a thousand years of history, Leesle is working to establish itself as a brand that modernizes tradition, with everyday Hanbok at its core. Many people perceive Hanbok as clothing worn only during holidays or special occasions. Leesle aims to change this perception by promoting the familiarity of everyday Hanbok and increasing awareness through various initiatives. They have taken on the role of Hanbok ambassadors, launching the "Hanbok Ippeo" (Wearing Hanbok) project, showcasing natural everyday scenes like riding the bus, having BBQ, or even going to clubs in Hanbok on social media. This has helped to establish a sense of familiarity and showcase the beauty of Leesle's Hanbok, contributing to a nationwide everyday Hanbok trend. As a result, Leesle recently appeared in a promotional CF for Jeonju City, alongside a Hanji (Korean paper) umbrella Intangible Cultural Heritage master, representing Jeonju's commitment to reinterpreting tradition and shaping its future. Leesle has become a prominent face of Jeonju.

In addition to this, CEO Hwang Iseul has been leading various programs and lectures to promote Hanbok and the beauty of Leesle. For example, she has been running Hanbok Start School in a series of sessions to provide hands-on experiences with Hanbok and the world of Hanbok design. She also organizes fashion shows with innovative concepts every year to promote Hanbok in various fields. For instance, in 2017, she held a fashion show titled "The Evolution of Hanbok," showcasing Hanbok made with modern, innovative materials. In 2018, she hosted a K-uniform Hanbok showcase featuring the traditional Korean aesthetic. She also participates in numerous lecture programs, including startup workshops for one-person businesses and lectures for prominent entrepreneurs of Jeollabuk-do Province, organized by the Jeollabuk-do Provincial Assembly.

And of course, there's the book that gained widespread recognition! "I Go to Hongdae in Hanbok." This book was published amidst numerous objections, with a single passion for Hanbok as a driving force. It reflects her journey of understanding the deeper meaning and significance of Hanbok, contributing to a shift in the perception of Hanbok amongst Koreans. Her dedication deepened as she delved into the world of Hanbok. Leesle has achieved international success, expanding to various global markets, including Europe, over the past 7 years.
